To serve as a forum to strengthens sisterhood while helping to plan and prepare for an upcoming surgery, members of My Sister's Keeper host a fun and exciting event we call a"Boobie Shower".
This experience was created not only to serve as a positive distraction to the stress and anxiety associated with a cancer diagnosis but serves as a forum to better prepare our sisters after surgery.
Whether it is a mastectomy, lumpectomy, or reconstruction associated with cancer, this event is designed to emotional, physically, and environmental prepare women for the journey to come.

What is a Boobie Shower?A Boobie Shower are gatherings to recognize women who are scheduled for or recently had a surgical procedure to alter their breast. This includes lumpectomies, mastectomies, implants, etc. The Boobie Shower is designed to help prepare women for their upcoming surgery and ultimately celebrate her "new boobs". Similar to baby or wedding showers, a Boobie Shower is a forum to prepare loved ones for an upcoming transformation in life. When diagnosed with Breast Cancer, reconstruction has been one of the most stressful ordeals that alters who we are in more ways than imagined. These women are not undergoing surgery because they want to but because they have to in order to become cancer-free and/or to reduce reoccurrence. 1 in every 8 women will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Any cancer diagnosis can cause extreme emotional, physical, and mental distress due to the many phases of transformation experienced. Moreover, women diagnosed with breast cancer may have surgery as part of their treatment plan to remove breast tissue (lumpectomy, mastectomy, etc.) and/or cancerous breast tissue and may choose breast reconstruction surgery to rebuild the shape and look of the breast (DIEP Flap, implants, etc.). A cancer diagnosis, overall, can cause a sense of uncertainly and fear. These stresses may lead to additional health related conditions such as anxiety, depression, etc. that impacts the overall healing process and motivation to be healed. The goal of these showers is to help prepare women for their upcoming procedure and shower them with gifts to help in this regard and to shower them with love and support.

What are potential gifts for a Boobie Shower?Suitable gifts for a Boobie Shower are tools and resources to allow the honoree to rest and heal. Potential gifts are as follows: Cash - to help with bills while on medical leave. Gift Cards - Uber Eats, lingerie or clothing stores. Honoree will have limited mobility and unable to cook. Will need new tops and bras to compliment new boobs. Volunteer to take out trash, complete yard work, or clean home during the time she is healing. Other suggestions can be found on our Amazon List.
