Mary first became involved with My Sister’s Keeper-Cleveland during the COVID-19 pandemic, leading the Reviving Prayer Circle for the first time. Inspired by the strength and resilience of the women she met, she continued to return, eventually serving as a Big Sister and Facilitator for private online sessions where sisters shared updates and received community support. As someone who has faced the challenges of cancer herself, Mary brings empathy, understanding, and a listening ear to her role, advocating for the sisters by forwarding their concerns to team members.
Mary holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from The Ohio State University and graduated with honors in May 2023 from the University of the Cumberlands with a Bachelor of Science in Theology Mission and Ministry. She was appointed Chaplain of My Sister’s Keeper-Cleveland in November 2021, a role in which she continues to provide spiritual support and encouragement to the women of the organization.
An 11-year Breast Cancer Warrior, Mary left her 20-year corporate career to launch One Word Encourage, LLC in October 2019. The mission of her organization is to inspire others to thrive beyond their circumstances, and it proudly partners with My Sister’s Keeper-Cleveland. Mary is also the self-published author of the One Word Encourage Journal Trilogy Series, which has reached readers as far as the Netherlands, and the host of the One Word Encourage Podcast, where she shares words of encouragement to help others overcome life's challenges.
Her journey, ministry, and community service have been featured in publications such as CanvasRebel and Brainz Magazines, as well as platforms including Wonder Women Wednesday, A Second Chance, Showing Up: Perspectives On Cancer, and the Navigating Cancer Together Podcast.
In addition to her spiritual and advocacy work, Mary is an Elementary School Educator and Certified Reading Tutor, helping improve literacy skills for elementary and middle school students. Her holistic approach to support—blending education, spiritual guidance, and community advocacy—aligns seamlessly with the mission of My Sister’s Keeper-Cleveland.
Mary also enjoys spending time with her 13-year-old son, Kaleb, who is preparing to officially join his middle school basketball team. The two are often seen together at community events, embodying the values of family and togetherness.
With her extensive background in mentorship, education, and advocacy, Mary is an invaluable asset to My Sister’s Keeper-Cleveland, empowering women to overcome challenges and thrive with dignity, hope, and strength.
