Growing Stronger Together: New Partnerships, Inspiring Stories, and Opportunities to Make an Impact

A message from our Founder:

As I reflect on this season, I am reminded of why My Sister’s Keeper Cleveland exists: to make sure no woman walks through cancer feeling unseen, unsupported, or alone.

Cancer does more than affect the body. It can leave emotional wounds, quiet fears, and unseen scars that many women carry long after diagnosis or treatment. But I also know that hope is powerful. Support is powerful. Sisterhood is powerful. When women are surrounded with care, compassion, resources, and community, healing becomes possible in deeper ways.

In this issue, we are proud to share several meaningful updates, including our growing community partnerships, our recent Fox 8 News interview with Wayne Dawson, a spotlight on Ursula Burnette, Director of our Little Sister Program, and details about our upcoming 9th Annual A Walk in Her Shoes.

Each of these stories reflects the heart of our work — walking beside women through every phase of the cancer journey and building a community rooted in hope, healing, and connection.

Thank you for believing in this mission, supporting our Sisters, and helping us continue to grow. Whether you volunteer, donate, partner, register for the walk, form a team, or simply share our story with someone who needs it, you are part of this movement.

Together, we are reminding every woman impacted by cancer that she is not alone.

With gratitude,

Sherri White, MSPOD, SSGBC

My Sister’s Keeper Cleveland Featured on Fox 8 News

My Sister’s Keeper Cleveland was honored to be featured on Fox 8 News during a heartfelt interview with veteran broadcaster Wayne Dawson.

Our Founder and President, Sherri White, and Big Sister of the Year, Danielle Davis, had the opportunity to share the heart behind My Sister’s Keeper Cleveland and the work we do to walk alongside women affected by cancer.

The interview touched on something many women know deeply but do not always have the words to express — the unseen scars that come with a cancer diagnosis. Beyond the appointments, treatments, and physical changes, there can be fear, uncertainty, grief, loneliness, and emotional wounds that others may never see.

Sherri and Danielle spoke about the healing power of hope, sisterhood, and steady support. Their message was simple but powerful: no woman should have to carry the weight of cancer alone.

This opportunity allowed us to shine a light on why our mission matters. Every woman deserves to feel seen, supported, and surrounded by a community that understands the journey — not just during treatment, but through every phase of healing.

We are deeply grateful to Wayne Dawson and the Fox 8 team for giving us the space to share our story, our mission, and the voices of the women we serve. Moments like this help us reach more women, build more connections, and continue creating a stronger community of hope and healing.

Director Spotlight: Ursula Burnette

This month, we are honored to spotlight Ursula Burnette, Director of the Little Sister Program at My Sister’s Keeper Cleveland.

The Little Sister Program is at the heart of our mission. It is where women who are newly diagnosed, in treatment, or navigating the uncertainty of cancer are met with compassion, guidance, and sisterhood. Through Ursula’s leadership, the program continues to help ensure that no woman feels unseen or unsupported during one of the most difficult seasons of her life.

Ursula brings care, understanding, and commitment to this role. Her work helps connect Little Sisters to encouragement, resources, and the support they need as they move through their cancer journey. Whether through check-ins, program guidance, or helping women feel welcomed into the My Sister’s Keeper Cleveland community, Ursula plays an important role in making sure each Little Sister knows she is not alone.

Her leadership reflects the heart of My Sister’s Keeper Cleveland: hope, healing, and the power of showing up for one another.

We are grateful for Ursula’s dedication and the love she pours into the Little Sister Program.

Expanding Access, Strengthening Support: Our Partnership with Care Alliance

We’re excited to share a powerful new step forward for women, families, and community members impacted by cancer.

My Sister’s Keeper-Cleveland has entered into a new collaborative partnership with Care Alliance Health Center, a trusted Cleveland-based Federally Qualified Health Center, to help connect eligible individuals with critical healthcare services, cancer screening resources, insurance support, and community-based care.

This partnership is about more than referrals. It is about opening doors.

Through this collaboration, My Sister’s Keeper-Cleveland may help connect eligible women and community members to Care Alliance Health Center for services such as:

  • Breast and cervical cancer screening

  • Primary medical care

  • Dental care

  • Behavioral health services

  • Insurance enrollment assistance

  • Medicaid support

  • Navigation services

  • Preventive health resources

  • Referrals to additional community support

For many people, the hardest part of getting care is knowing where to start. This partnership helps create a stronger bridge between community support and healthcare access, especially for individuals who are uninsured, underinsured, impacted by cancer, or facing barriers to care.

At My Sister’s Keeper-Cleveland, our mission has always been rooted in healing, sisterhood, health equity, and empowerment. By working with Care Alliance Health Center, we are strengthening our ability to walk alongside women and families as they seek the care, answers, and support they deserve.

“This collaboration helps us do what we do best: connect women and families to hope, support, and life-changing resources,” said Sherri White, MSPOD, President and CEO of My Sister’s Keeper-Cleveland. “Together, we are making it easier for our community to access screening, healthcare navigation, insurance assistance, and compassionate support.”

The organizations may also work together on future community engagement activities, including educational sessions, insurance application support workshops, community programming, and awareness events.

This is a meaningful step in our ongoing commitment to reduce barriers, increase access, and make sure no woman feels like she has to navigate cancer, healthcare, or healing alone.

Stay connected with My Sister’s Keeper-Cleveland for updates on upcoming programs, referral opportunities, workshops, and community events.

Because access matters. Screening matters. Support matters. And our community matters.

Whether you are navigating treatment, recovering after treatment, managing medication-related weight changes, or simply looking to improve your overall health, nutrition can play an important role in your journey. Through this partnership, Sisters have access to education, guidance, and resources designed to help them move forward with confidence.

Forward Weight and Wellness takes a personalized approach, recognizing that every person's health journey is unique. Their programs focus on practical strategies, nutrition guidance, physical activity, and sustainable lifestyle changes that support long-term success.

“Dr. Fore helped me better understand my lab results and what they meant for my health. When one of my levels came back high, she explained the possible factors, helped me prepare talking points, and gave me questions to ask my prescribing doctor. I left feeling more informed, confident, and prepared to advocate for myself.”

We are grateful to Dr. Fore-Williams for sharing her expertise and helping our sisters prioritize their health beyond cancer treatment.

Event Spotlight: A Walk in Her Shoes Returns for Its 9th Year

Mark your calendars! My Sister's Keeper Cleveland is excited to announce that registration is now open for our 9th Annual A Walk in Her Shoes, taking place on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at Fatima Family Center.

More than a walk, A Walk in Her Shoes is a celebration of survivorship, a tribute to those we have lost, and a powerful reminder that no woman should face cancer alone. Each year, survivors, caregivers, healthcare professionals, families, friends, and community supporters come together to raise awareness, honor cancer journeys, and help ensure women affected by cancer have access to the support and resources they need.

This year's theme, "Rooted In," reflects the strength, resilience, and community that sustain us through life's most difficult challenges. Just as roots provide stability and nourishment, our Sisters, supporters, partners, and volunteers help create a foundation of hope and healing for women navigating cancer.

We are especially excited to partner with Fatima Family Center for this year's event, bringing together two organizations committed to strengthening and uplifting our community.
